Women Powering the Oppnergy
Community: Meet Lamfu Marie-claire Asunyu
Community Spotlight | Women’s Month
Lamfu Marie-claire Asunyu moves through the world with a clear conviction: that integrity matters more than income, and that real growth comes from building authority through value, not shortcuts. That belief shapes everything she does, from the digital marketing strategies she crafts to the way she shows up as a mentor and community organiser in Bamenda.
This Women’s Month, we are celebrating someone whose work sits right at the meeting point of strategy, service, and heart. Marie-claire is a digital marketer, a social media manager, a mentor, and a community builder, and she brings each of those roles the same thoughtful energy. Moreover, her fingerprints are all over some of the most active communities in Cameroon’s growing digital and tech scene.
So, Who Is Marie-claire?
Marie-claire is a digital marketing specialist based in Bamenda I, Northwest Region, with expertise that stretches across several disciplines at once. However, what makes her stand out is not just the breadth of her skills. It is the way she uses them together to build things that actually work for real people and real communities.
Her professional toolkit includes:
- Social media management and community management, growing engaged audiences and keeping communities active and valued
- Content writing and brand strategy, helping individuals and organisations communicate with clarity and authority
- Event marketing and organisation, coordinating experiences that bring people together around meaningful goals
- Virtual assistance and administrative support, currently contributing to Better World Charity as an Administrative Assistant
- Personal branding guidance, helping professionals build credibility through strategic, value-driven communication
Furthermore, you can explore her full journey on her Oppnaut profile and connect with her directly on LinkedIn, where she shares practical, thoughtful insights on career growth and personal branding.
The Mentor Behind the Strategy
Marie-claire joined Oppnergy as a mentor in August 2024, and in the time since, she has been one of the community’s most consistent contributors. As a Level 2 Oppnaut, she has not just passed through the programme. She has invested in it, and in the people within it.
Her testimonial about Oppnergy speaks directly to what drew her in and kept her engaged. She talks about the community’s ability to help members stand out, maximise the opportunities in front of them, and grow in ways that go beyond skills alone. That is not the language of someone going through the motions. That is someone who has genuinely felt the impact of being in the right room with the right people.
As a result, she now works to create that same feeling for the people she mentors. The Oppnauts page gives a sense of the wider community she is part of, but the mentorship she offers goes well beyond what any page can capture.
Building Bamenda’s Digital Community from the Inside Out
Beyond Oppnergy, Marie-claire is a Co-organizer of GDG Bamenda, a role she has held since April 2024. GDG, or Google Developer Group, is one of the most active tech community networks in Africa, and GDG Bamenda is a hub for developers, designers, and digital professionals in the Northwest Region.
In that role, she has helped organise key events including the International Women’s Day 2026 celebration and DevFest sessions that bring hundreds of community members together. Organising events like these is not just logistics work. It is community architecture. Every well-run event creates new connections, opens new doors, and shows people what is possible when a community takes itself seriously.
In addition, Lamfu Marie-claire Asunyu volunteers with Better World Charity, bringing her administrative and organisational skills to a cause that extends her impact beyond the tech world. She is, in the clearest sense, someone who builds wherever she goes.
Why This Work Matters: The Numbers Behind the Mission
Marie-claire works in digital marketing at a time when the case for more women in leadership across tech and digital fields has never been more urgent, and the data makes that plain.
According to UNDP Africa, fewer than 30% of tech and STEM roles across Sub-Saharan Africa are held by women. Furthermore, McKinsey research shows that fewer than 12% of tech leadership positions on the continent go to women. In digital marketing and community management, where women are more represented than in engineering, leadership roles are still largely out of reach for most. However, mentors and community builders like Marie-claire are actively changing the shape of that pipeline.
As UN Women recognises during Women’s Month, real change comes from the people who invest steadily in others, not just in themselves. Marie-claire does both. To understand more about the community that supports and amplifies that kind of work, the About page is a good place to start.
To Marie-claire, From Oppnergy: With Gratitude and Pride
Some people talk about integrity and growth. Marie-claire actually builds her whole career on it, and the Oppnergy community has been better for her presence since the day she joined.
Through her mentorship, she is giving people a clearer view of their own potential. At GDG Bamenda, she is creating the kind of spaces where Cameroon’s digital talent can meet, grow, and collaborate. Her content and teaching, meanwhile, are helping others build the kind of authority that opens real doors.
Above all, she does it with a warmth and consistency that makes the people around her feel seen and supported. That is not a small thing. In fact, it is the thing that makes everything else possible.
Marie-claire, Oppnergy is proud to have you as a mentor, as a community builder, and as a constant example of what it looks like to lead with both skill and heart. We are grateful for every session, every conversation, and every person whose path is clearer because of your work.
Here is to strategy with soul, growth with integrity, and every community you are still going to build. Here is to you, Marie-claire.
