Women Powering the Oppnergy Community: Meet Ngwa Precious Akongnwi Sirrichang

Community Spotlight featuring Ngwa Precious Akongnwi Sirrichang | Women’s Month

Ngwa Precious Akongnwi Sirrichang is proof that a person does not have to fit into one box to make a real impact. She is a software engineering student, an online tutor, a resin artist, and a dedicated Oppnaut, and she holds all of those identities at once without losing any of them.

This Women’s Month, we are celebrating someone who shows up in every space she enters with intention and energy. From the code she writes at the University of Bamenda to the handcrafted pieces she creates in her studio, Precious brings the same care and commitment to everything she does. Moreover, she brings all of it into the Oppnergy community, where she is one of the most versatile contributors we are proud to have.

So, Who Is Ngwa Precious Akongnwi Sirrichang?

Precious is a Software Engineering student at the University of Bamenda, building a technical foundation in programming, development, and problem-solving. However, her story is not just about what she is studying. It is about how she is using every part of who she is to grow faster and reach further.

In addition to her studies, she serves as a Preply tutor, teaching and mentoring students online in a way that sharpens both her communication and her subject knowledge. She is also affiliated with N-tech Bamenda, a local tech group that keeps her plugged into the broader ecosystem of young innovators in her city.

Furthermore, Precious is a resin artist, creating handmade craft pieces that reflect a side of her that pure technology cannot fully express. That blend of logical thinking and creative instinct is not a contradiction. For Precious, it is a strength. You can connect with her directly on her LinkedIn and see the full picture for yourself.

What She Brings to the Oppnergy Community

As a featured Oppnaut, Precious contributes to the Oppnergy community through dedication, skill-sharing, and genuine presence. She is the kind of member who shows up not just to receive but to give, and the people around her feel that difference.

Her profile reflects a person with a wide range of active commitments:

  • Pursuing a BSc in Software Engineering at the University of Bamenda, building core skills in development and programming
  • Working as a Preply tutor, providing online mentoring and education to learners beyond her immediate community
  • Actively volunteering in her community, contributing time and effort to causes beyond her own advancement
  • Creating resin art as a handmade craft practice that reflects her creative depth
  • Engaged with N-tech Bamenda, staying connected with the local tech ecosystem in the Northwest Region

What ties all of this together is a consistent desire to grow and to help others grow alongside her. That is exactly what the Oppnergy mission is built on, and Precious lives it out in practice.

The Numbers Behind the Work

Precious is pursuing software engineering at a time when the need for more women in the field has never been more obvious, and the numbers tell that story clearly.

According to UNDP Africa, fewer than 30% of tech and STEM roles across Sub-Saharan Africa are held by women. In addition, McKinsey research shows that fewer than 12% of tech leadership positions on the continent go to women. In software engineering specifically, the gap starts at the university level, which is why every young woman who stays in the pipeline matters. Consequently, the choices Precious is making right now are not just personal. They are part of a larger shift.

As UN Women highlights during Women’s Month, lasting change comes from people who keep showing up in spaces that were not built with them in mind. Precious is doing that in the lecture halls of the University of Bamenda, in online tutoring sessions, and in the Oppnergy community, all at the same time.

Why Versatility Is a Superpower

There is a version of success that says you should pick one thing and stay in your lane. Precious does not subscribe to that, and her path so far suggests she is right not to.

Teaching sharpens her ability to explain what she knows, which makes her a better engineer. Resin art trains her eye for detail and her patience with process, both of which carry directly into software work. Volunteering keeps her connected to real human needs, which is ultimately what good technology is built to serve.

Rather than spreading herself thin, she is building a broader foundation than most people her age. Furthermore, the Oppnergy community has given her a space where that kind of full-person development is not just allowed but actively encouraged. For more on what that environment looks like, the About page gives a clear picture of the values that shape it.

To Precious, From Oppnergy: With Gratitude and So Much Pride

Some people enter a community and make it feel bigger and more possible just by being in it. Precious is one of those people, and the Oppnergy community has been richer for her presence since she joined.

She is writing code that could one day power real products. Through her tutoring work, she is helping other learners find their footing. In her creative practice, she is making things with her hands that carry meaning. In every volunteering space she steps into, she is giving time she did not have to give.

Above all, she is doing it all while still in the thick of her studies, which is no small thing. The discipline that takes, and the belief in herself that it requires, is exactly the kind of spirit that the women in the Oppnergy community stand for and celebrate every day.

Precious, we see all of it. We are proud of you, and we are grateful you chose to grow with us. The young women watching you right now are already thinking bigger because of you.

Here is to code, craft, and community. Here is to you, Precious.
